Ask your AI assistant about market data

The FirstRate Data MCP server lets your chosen AI assistant use FirstRate Data's comprehensive datasets. Ask questions in plain English and the assistant fetches the prices, fundamentals and other data it needs, so you don't write any API calls.

The MCP server is in beta and is included with the Fundamentals bundle.

What you can ask

All prompt recipes →
“What's AAPL's short interest trend this year?”
“Compare Microsoft and Apple's revenue and margins over the last 3 years.”
“Which tickers had the highest short volume percentage yesterday?”
“Chart NVDA's price around its last eight earnings dates.”
“Which Dow stocks have raised their dividend every year since 2015?”
“Show Tesla's forward P/E and market cap over the last 5 years.”

What your assistant can look up

Most questions can cover one company's history ("AAPL over the last 5 years") or the latest snapshot across all tickers.

Prices and technicals

Daily split-adjusted OHLCV prices, plus RSI, ADX, moving averages, volatility and beta.

Valuation

P/E (trailing and forward), P/B, P/S, market cap, enterprise value, and dividend and earnings yield.

Reference

Ticker list, company profiles, and when each dataset was last updated.

How to connect

You need an active Fundamentals bundle purchase, which includes MCP access during the beta, and your FirstRate Data userid. Then add this connector URL to your assistant:

https://mcp.firstratedata.com/mcp?api_key=YOUR_USERID

Replace YOUR_USERID with your FirstRate Data userid, the same one you use for API calls. Keep it private, because it works like a password.

Claude on the web or desktop (Pro and Max plans):

  1. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors.
  2. Click +, then Add custom connector.
  3. Enter a name, e.g. FirstRate Data, paste your connector URL with your userid in it, and click Add.
  4. Start a new chat and ask a question. Claude calls FirstRate Data when it needs data.

You can turn individual tools on or off in the connector's settings.

An organization Owner adds the connector once under Organization settings → Connectors. Each member then connects it with their own userid.

Claude Code can send your userid in a header, which keeps it out of the URL:

claude mcp add --transport http firstratedata https://mcp.firstratedata.com/mcp \
  --header "X-API-Key: YOUR_USERID"

Any assistant or editor that supports remote MCP servers, such as ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code, can use the same connector URL. Add it as a custom connector or remote MCP server in that app's settings.

Good to know

  • Dates are YYYY-MM-DD. If you don't give a date range, you get about the last year.
  • Results are kept short by default. Ask for “the last 5 years” or “up to 500 rows” to get more.
  • You can make up to 60 requests a minute, and each data lookup counts as one request.
  • Social sentiment timestamps are in US Eastern time.

MCP questions

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants call external tools and data sources. The FirstRate Data MCP server is one of those sources.

Which AI assistants work with it?

Claude on the web, desktop and Claude Code, plus any other assistant or editor that supports remote MCP servers, such as ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code.

What do I need?

The MCP server is in beta and is only included with a Fundamentals bundle purchase. You also need your FirstRate Data userid, the same one you use for API calls.

It isn't working. What should I check?

Check that the connector URL starts with https://mcp.firstratedata.com/mcp and ends with ?api_key= followed by your userid, and that your Fundamentals bundle subscription is active. A “rate limit exceeded” message means more than 60 requests in a minute, so wait a moment and try again. If it still fails, email support@firstratedata.com with the time of the request and the question you asked.
