Crypto — Intraday and End-of-Day OHLCV

Intraday (down to 1-minute) and end-of-day price and volume bars for 70+ actively traded cryptocurrencies and crypto pairs. Bitcoin history starts in April 2013.

Schema

ColumnTypeDescription
timestamp datetime / date Bar start time, UTC. Intraday bars: yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss, so a bar stamped 09:30 covers 09:30:00–09:30:59. Daily bars: yyyy-MM-dd, date only.
open float First price in the bar
high float Highest price in the bar
low float Lowest price in the bar
close float Last price in the bar
volume integer Volume in units of the coin (e.g. BTC)

Data formats

  • Intraday bars (1-minute, 5-minute, 30-minute, 1-hour): the timestamp has the date and time, yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss (UTC).
  • End-of-day bars (daily): the timestamp is the date only, yyyy-MM-dd, with no time.
  • Columns: timestamp, open, high, low, close, volume (coin units), the same at every frequency.
  • Daily bars run midnight to midnight UTC, not on a US Eastern trading day.

Methodology

[Exchange / price source to confirm.] Pairs are quoted in USD unless the ticker says otherwise (e.g. BTC-EUR, ETH-BTC). No adjustments are applied.

Intended uses

  • Training and evaluating forecasting and time-series models
  • Building reinforcement-learning environments and market simulators
  • Backtesting and quantitative research

Known limitations

  • Bars with zero volume are left out rather than filled, so a gap in the sequence means no trades. Gaps are most common in small caps and in pre- and post-market hours.
  • Trading halts, such as the March 2020 market-wide circuit breakers, show up as gaps.
  • Unlike the other datasets, timestamps are in UTC, not US Eastern.
  • Start dates vary widely. BTC begins in 2013, most major coins in 2017–2018, and newer tokens from their listing date.
